Career progression in catering

The Level 1 Diploma in Professional Cookery can help you find a job as a:

  • Commis Chef Assistant to the Pastry Chef
  • Kitchen Assistant

The Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery can help you find a job as a:

  • Catering or restaurant manager
  • Chef

The Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery can help you find a job as a:

  • Catering or restaurant manager
  • Chef

Education progression in catering

After taking the Level 1 qualification students are able to move onto the City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery (7100)

The Level 2 Professional Cookery Diploma will suit students that have some basic skills and experience as a chef, normally from a role where you work under supervision. This practical cookery course also suits students who are looking to gain a formal qualification, as well as those who are looking to develop new skills and refine ones they already have. This higher level diploma ensures that students will have the practical expertise to eventually move into a more senior cookery role.

After taking the Level 2 qualification you are able to move on to City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery (7100).

The Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery is ideal if you’ve worked as a chef for some time. This course is the right choice for you if you have plenty of experience in the kitchen or already supervise others or manage resources. Students taking this cookery course are able to develop their skills further, perhaps to work as a senior chef or restaurant manager.

Career Progression in Hair and Beauty

  • Level 1 Hair and Beauty would enable you to get a Saturday job or be an assistant in the salon
  • Level 2 Hair would enable you to work as a stylist in a salon or working independently
  • Level 2 Beauty – working salon
  • Level 3 – you would be able to work on cruise ships, in film/theatre, sole trader

Education progression in Hair and Beauty

  • Level 1 would move to Level 2
  • Level 2 would move to Level 3

Career progression in engineering

The engineering industry is what’s known as a ‘growth industry’, meaning that there is an increasing demand for skilled workers with appropriate qualifications. Many companies, particularly in Kent and the South East, are looking for young people to recruit and train. This makes a qualification in engineering the perfect launch pad for a successful career.

By studying at the Swale Skills Centre, you can establish a career in mechanical, maintenance, electrical, electronic or information control system engineering and let your passion guide you to your perfect job.

Education progression in engineering

  • BTEC Level 2 First Award
  • City and Guilds Diploma in Engineering
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering

With starting salaries for level 3 graduates (17 years+) at over £12k per annum and around £25-40K per annum for those in their mid-20s, engineering is one of the best paid industries for young people today.
